Barrelhouse Boys
The Wreck

On August 9, 1894, eleven lives went out under the crashing weight of a steam engine and two passenger cars, falling from a high trestle to a rock strewn gully south of Lincoln.  The signs pointed to a derailment--but who did the deed?  And why?

The site of the train wreck can be viewed in Wilderness Park, a few miles south of Lincoln, NE.  A Nebraska State historical marker was dedicated on the site of the wreck by the author on August 9, 1894.

The author shown with his parents, Roger and Sally, at the site of the Rock Island train wreck of August 9, 1894 in Wilderness Park, Lincoln, NE.  Remains of a later version of the trestle from which the train fell can be seen in the background.
